Overcoming Low Self Esteem With These Basic Tips!
Need help with overcoming low self esteem? That's okay. We all need help with our self esteem."Why is that?" Nothing can be more important than taking care of ourselves so that we maintain strong self esteem.
After all, it is the force that enables us to transform our lives! There are three basic self esteem tips that you can start doing and have working for you instantly!
They are:
- Accepting and understanding the source of your low self esteem
- Learning about self esteem
- Do a few self esteem building activities
Simple enough? It's always simple. It's never easy! ;-)
#1 Accept and Understand!
Before you can build strong self esteem you need to first accept your low self esteem!
Then again, you may not have low self esteem (take this self esteem questionnaire to find out for yourself.)
"I have low self esteem." Say that to yourself right now. Does it sound right? Or does it not strike a chord with you? Do you feel anything at all?
If you do feel like it's true, then that's okay. Let's accept it and discover the source. Doing this is crucial if you want to have any chance at building strong self esteem!
Does it come from how you were raised? Does it come from your family? Friends? Were you unable to take responsibility for yourself when you grew up?
I recommend getting a notebook and taking some time to think and ponder on where this low self esteem comes from.
"Sure, that sounds so easy for you to say! How do I even get started?"
I recommend reading self esteem books that have exercises for you to do. A good book that I've read is Nathaniel Branden's 'Honoring the Self'' which brings me to my next point.
#2 Read and Learn!
Self esteem is a very elusive term because it means different things to everyone. Not only that but overcoming low self esteem is different for everyone too!
"How does reading help me with overcoming low self esteem?" Most successful self esteem books give you an understanding of self esteem that you can work with.
For example, they teach us that self esteem is not fixed and that you can actually work on it! Doesn't that sound refreshing?
You're not stuck with never having strong self esteem. You can improve on it so that you can live the life you've always wanted!
A great author to get familiar with is, again, Nathaniel Branden.
When you read his books, it's not just about the advice he gives you but also about how he uses his own self esteem tips throughout his books (granted I only read 'Honoring the Self' ' and 'The Six Pillars of Self-Esteem'.)
"What do I do after reading them?" There's one final step that will get you quickly overcoming low self esteem.
#3 Self Esteem Activities!
Building self esteem is like building a muscle - it takes proper nutrition (reading books) and activities.
Once you're done with overcoming low self esteem, you also need to do activities to maintain your level of self esteem or it will go back down!
Some of these activities include:
- Exercising
- Taking on a passionate hobby
- Doing something you never thought you could do before
Exercising rejuvenates more than just your body - it rejuvenates your whole being!
If you want the quickest way to building yourself up, exercising is the answer.
You'll get to do things you never thought you could do and feel good about your accomplishments!
Taking on a passionate hobby is another great way to overcoming low self esteem.
You're identifying with and accepting something you genuinely enjoy. There's nothing more powerful than accepting yourself and your desires!
"But I feel guilty when I do it!" That's the kind of programing that brought down your low self esteem.
When I catch myself with that thought, I remember one of Nathaniel Branden's exercises: I do it anyway and tell myself that "I'm a good boy" repeatedly. Try it out!
Either exercising or taking on a passionate hobby are ways that push you beyond where you mentally thought possible.
Find more things that make you feel like that and do them! You'll start noticing the changes right after and will continue to build strong self esteem.
