Preventing Job Burnout Withou Bad Conscience

Taking a break is not only good for you, but it's necessary so that you can keep the long term work pace you've set for yourself.

The problem is that we tend to feel guilty when we're taking a break doing nothing! How to get ourselves to just relax? We need to understand that:

Let's take a look at how each realization helps you.

Doing 'Nothing' is Doing 'Something'

Sadly, we learn that when it comes to taking action we need to get immediate and tangible results or what we're doing is a waste of time!

Because of this, we look at resting as being lazy because the benefits don't show immediately. Did you know that in Western nations, men on average die sooner than women?

The main reason I believe is because men don't rest nearly as much as women do (again, resting doesn't mean being lazy.) What does that tell us?

Those who make time to rest (ideally when they start seeing signs of job burnout) live longer, happier and more productive lives!

Note: These are all benefits of resting. Sadly they are not as tangible as the results we get from working so we don't notice the correlation. Well, now you do! Resting in addition to working will make your day in the office more enjoyable!

Resting a Few Minutes Can be Enough!

When we're seeing the signs of job burnout and think about resting, we imagine days on the beach or long walks in the park. In reality, 5 minutes can be enough!

The best part is that those 5 minutes of rest helps with both making you finish your job at work (which will make your team happy) and preventing job burnout!

So just find a few minutes during the day to just rest...close your eyes, play a relaxing tune (or play one in your head) and visualize yourself relaxing on the beach. Feels good right? ;-)

Whenever you're seeing signs of job burnout, give this a chance and you'll be glad you did!

Why Resting Improves Your Productivity!

Imagine you're resting at work, and your boss walks in - what do you say? How about saying that resting both helps with preventing job burnout and makes you more productive at work!

You see, resting just might be the magic pill you need to get more work done (especially if you're noticing signs of job burnout!)

Understand that every part of your life is like a long-distance run and I recommend having a work life balance that you can live with and that involves taking time off. In the long run you'll be more productive and live with more peace of mind.

Granted, if you're in a difficult time in your life where taking any time off (even minutes) is a feat, then promise yourself that you're going to rest on such-and-such day (write it down and give it priority on that day). Honor that promise.

Summary

All in all, taking a break from time to time will help you get more done so that your boss can leave you alone, and you can last longer at work and maybe even come home with a smile!

In any case when you see signs of job burnout, be sure that you're taking action and start preventing job burnout.
