Talk about living a life filled with joy and pleasure! Having so much fun, how can you not want to spend your life setting goals and achieving them?
Stop Asking "Why?" and Start Asking "Why Not?"
Sadly, when it comes to setting goals and achieving them, most people hold themselves back by asking "why?"
You can join the goal-achievers by asking yourself Why not?" instead! Can you feel the difference in thoughts and energy that comes from that simple change?
So now, you're going to read about a few games that you can play for setting goals and achieving them. You may or may not like to try these games, but if you can get the fundamental principle behind the idea of this (which is to have fun!), you can make your own games!
Now it's time to throw away your to do list and choose from one of the next 4 games in the next 7 days and get moving! ;-)
Game #1 - Scavenger Hunt!
Remember when you played the wonderful game of 'scavenger hunt' as a child? Didn't that game make you want to get things done?
Do you know why? Because the rewards were great and you believed that you could do the tasks!
Well, how about using that for setting goals and achieving them?
Step 1: Find little rewards or treasures for yourself that you genuinely want. The rewards can be small things (like a cup of hot chocolate or an hour of T.V.) to bigger things (like a C.D. or a song, to a simple walk in your favorite park!)What's important is that the rewards are things that you genuinely want for yourself. Having goals and rewards that you genuinely want will motivate and inspire you.
Important: Make sure you have a small reward BOTH for accomplishing the goal AND for finishing what you started. This is important because many times we don't give ourselves credit for being finishers.
Be sure to reward yourself for finishing as well, and you'll be unstoppable when it comes to setting goals and achieving them!
Step 2: Write down smart goals, write them down into smaller goals that are do-able and then
Game #2 - Challenge!
Step 1: Find and take on a challenge that you want to do (it can come from website, a book, a challenge that you made by yourself or with a buddy, anywhere! as long as there's something to win at the end!
A challenge is where you give yourself something to accomplish in a certain amount of time. For example, telling yourself that you're going to do 20 push-ups in 1 minute is a challenge!
Step 2: Again give yourself a reward at the end of the challenge. Treat yourself to something for either finishing it or better - winning it! This type of challenge will make you want to either do it again, or do another one at a harder level!
Game #3 - The Betting Game!
Step 1: Make a bet with yourself or a friend that you will make a certain thing happen and if not, you lose! Tell your best friend, roommate, partner or business partner about something that you will accomplish in a certain amount of time (30 days for starters works great!), and then make a bet with that person.
Tell that person that if you win, you get a reward (money, a special dinner, anything!) but that if you lose, you will give that person twice as much as you wanted for the reward (this is to get the other person interested in making the bet).
For guys, this is great because our ego is at stake here! We don't want to be seen as losers, so we will do whatever it takes to at least complete our end of the bargain (note: You can also set a humiliating experience for yourself if you don't accomplish the goal!)
Ideally, you want to do the bet with someone else who wants the same goal as you. That way, you BOTH benefit from it and can move towards setting goals and achieving them that you both share! That's what I did with my neighbor, and now I'm doing the BodyForLife!
If no one wants to make the bet with you, then make the bet with yourself! NOTE: Honor your own bets and don't try to cheat yourself! You'll only be lying to yourself. )-:
Game #4 - Game Combo!
You can mix the games which is always good. For example, you can make a bet with a friend on which one of you will accomplish a challenge you find!
You can also give yourself little rewards for each mini-goal accomplished (where a mini-goal means a small goal that you can accomplish from a week to four weeks.) Or you can make it so that every week you complete of the challenge, you get a small prize! If you still get bored, mix it up at different times! If you are doing a challenge and it was fun for a few weeks but now it's getting bored, feel free to go onto a new game!
Warning!
Be sure to break your goals down into smaller chunks (mini-goals) and finish the mini-goal that you started before moving on to the next mini-goal. Keep building the habit of setting goals and achieving them, even the smallest ones.
Note: If you have a hard time going for goals even with rewards, you can set them up with things you want to avoid!
For example, you can write down things that you will not do or get if you accomplish the goals (such as that ipod you've been dying for, or that caramel mocha you always get every Sunday!) Cut those out until you accomplish that goal!
That's an extra way to motivate yourself towards setting goals and achieving them. In any case, the more fun you have withsetting goals and achieving them, the more successful you'll be!
