Why Do People Procrastinate? Discover The Three Reasons Why You Aren't Getting Work Done!
"Why do people procrastinate? They lack either - desire, values, beliefs! When you do something that in not aligned with either of these things, you procrastinate."Please Define 'procrastinate'!" To procrastinate is to - "postpone doing what one should be doing." In other words, it's trying to take action without having one of the ingredients above.
"So why do I procrastinate?" You procrastinate because you either:
- Don't know why you have to do something
- What you're doing goes against your personal values
- Don't believe that you can get what you're working for
Let's take a deeper look...
People Procrastinate Becayse They Lack 'Desire'!
If you want to get something done, then ask yourself or the person who wants you to do something 'why' they want you to do that.
Note: If you want to work on your 'why' then learn about the power of positive visualization!
You see, you can fake desire for a while but eventually you won't be able to lie to yourself anymore.
So you start to procrastinate and believe that something is wrong with you (we'll talk about beliefs in a bit).
In reality you haven't explained to yourself why you're doing something. So either have a genuine answer, or work on getting out of your obligation - you'll just keep procrastinating otherwise. )-:
People Procrastinate Because Their Values Clash!
When it comes to doing something, if you don't think or feel like it's the right thing to do (for whatever reason) then what's happening is that your actions and values are clashing.
If you're saying "Hey! That's me! then I recommend taking a look at your values and seeing if they're in alignment with what you're doing.
Note: Knowing how to set goals will make it simpler for you to find your values!
People Procrastinate Because They Don't Believe They Can Succeed!
"What does it mean to believe?" It means to make your thoughts 'real'. You have thousands of thoughts going into and out of your head each hour. Some of these thoughts you just let fly by, but others you accept and make them a part of your reality.
If you don't believe that you or what you're doing will get you the results you want, then you'll procrastinate. So ask yourself "Do I deserve to succeed?" and if the answer is "no", then I recommend that you change your attitude!
Summary
So when you ask "why do I procrastinate" again, you know what to tell yourself and most importantly - you know what to do!
Having a deep understanding of your desires, values and beliefs and being able to objectively look at them so that you can change what's not working is a valuable tool in itself.
